Blog Post: Identify the two most significant things you learned in this course.

One of the most significant things i learned in this class is how to market on the internet. You explained terms such as e-commerce and click through ad's. Before this class i had never really known what those terms meant. I think it's amazing how many ways you can get your product out on the internet. Another significant thing that i learned in this class was social networking. There are so many programs that let you social network. I didn't know companies used facebook and sites like linkedin to communicate. Facebook has gone onto a much larger thing. Creating a blog was also introduced in this class and before this i had never done one before. I think blogs are a great tool and i liek the idea that you have us post a blog every week. It's alot easier to write on here. As for everything else, it was useful, and very useful to my major.

Blog post – This week you can write about whatever is on your mind.

I've been thinking of ideas for the layout and content of my website. I want to createa vibrant theme with different values of green, blue, and yellow. I want the site to be basic and easy to follow. For the links i think i'am going to create images with downloadable text and link them to the four pages. The four pages will be the home page, about natural energy sources and "going" green and why you should. Another page about companies making products out of natural energy sources and what "going green" can do. And the last page will be the content page about how you can get involved with "going green" and products you should buy made from natural energy sources. I want to use "nature" typed brushes to create a layout. The title of the pages will be on the top right. thats all so far..I'am goign to sketch out a homepage and go over the basic elements again.

Blog Post: Post a proposal for your website project (due 3 days after your class)- I will submit a comment to indicate if it is approved.

The topic of my web site will be, natural energy sources. These energy sources include, wind power, water power, and solar power. The site will explain what a natural energy source is, what it does, and why we should star using more of them. The site will also contain information about each source. Since this is a pretty big subject i won't cover all the key points regarding the energy sources. This site will contain a home page, a page with the information listed above, and a page for the types of sources and the explanations of them. In total the site will have a minimum of three pages.

Blog: Post a review of a restaurant you visited within the past three weeks

The most recent restaurant that i went to was Long Horn in Marlborough, MA. We went late at night so it wasn't to crowded inside. Waiting to be seated took about ten minutes. Once we got to our table we were introduced to our waitress. She brought over bread and butter and took our drink orders. The people behind us were really obnoxious but the waitress seemed ok. Once we received our drinks we placed our order. I ordered a steak with mash potatoes. I asked for my steak medium. We received our order quickly and accurately. The waitress did a good job of refilling our drinks without us having to ask, when they got low. All in all the service and food were great. The theme of the restaurant was good to. It was a south western theme.

Blog: Post what you think is the most important/central concept in “Tribes”

The most important concept that i found out of the book was, leaders. The author explains that leaders make up for everything. Without them a tribe couldn't and wouldn't exist. No two leaders are the same but there are qualities a leader must possess to be called a leader. Godin mentions numerous examples of leaders throughout history. For example, Steve jobs, Albert einstein, and even himself. He tries to convince you throughout the book that you can become a leader and everyone needs you to lead.

Blog Post: Choose article on social issues and write a brief summary and opinion paper

http://www.stopcyberbullying.org

Stopcyberbullying. org is a site about an on-going problem called cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is when a child or pre teen is harassed, embarrassed, or targeted by another child or pre teen over an interactive and digital device. The site gives you an over view of what Cyber bullying is, how it works, why kids do it, prevention, taking action, and a brief summary of the law in regards to Cyber bullying. This site is good because it gives you the basic's of what cyber bullying is. It is also easy to follow because the links always stay at the top of the screen. For our responses in class about cyber bullying i found it very useful in answering all my questions. This site is good for brief answers concerning the topic of cyber bullying.

Blog Post: This week I want you to write about something useful that you learned this week

An interested topic that came to my mind during last weeks class were all the different ways you could present a presentation. A lot of people think powerpoint is the most effective way to present a presentation. In some cases that's true but sometimes powerpoint can get boring. We learned a few other creative ways to present a presentation in class this week. One web site you could use is glogster.com. This site lets you create a virtual poster with elements from there site or from your own work. There's also themes within the site you can choose from to add to your poster. Different graphics and effects can also be added to your presentation. In addition you can upload your own photos or graphics into your poster. Theres also sites involving animation techniques and map techniques such as, googlemaps and xtranormal.com.

Post a review of a movie you watch this week (or within the last 2 weeks)

"Wikis in Plain English" Review

"Wikis in Plain English" was an excellent tool in aiding the understanding of what a wiki is and the functions of a wiki. What made is so easy to understand was that it was explained in plain english. This gave the viewers who had no idea what a wiki was (including myself) a clear a thoughtful explanation of exactly what a wiki was. One thing that i really liked about the movie were the interactive examples of a wiki's functions. The video gave examples of what buttons to look for within a wiki and how to use those buttons interactively within a group. Overall a rate this video, an an excellent learning source. Someone who has no idea what a wiki is could learn more than enough about wiki's from this video.

Hoax Site?

Blog Post: Identify one of the sites from the list above that is a hoax site (or find another on your own) and detail why you think the site is fake. be sure to include the URL in your blog post.

The site that i choose to evaluate was http://descy.50megs.com/akcj3/bmd.html (Bernese Mountain Dog site)

What is the author of this site? Does the author have contact information?
At the bottom of the site under the copyright section there is a credit to
Dr. Charlie White, Ph.D., DVM., AECT. There is no contact information for the authors of this site.

What is the publishers reputation?
The publisher of the site says it is the,
Burmese Mountain Dog Club of America. Below the publisher is a link to http://burmesemountaindog.inf. When clicking the link, the browser brings you back to the initial page you started it. All in all this link doesn't really do anything. It may just be there to make it look like the publisher has a website.

How broad minded or biased is the content?
The first thing i noticed is that the site isn't even about Burmese Mountain dogs. It shows several pictures of German Shepard's. When goggling "Burmese Mountain Dog" it showed the correct picture, totally different from the one on the web site.

Information on the page?
The copyright date dates back to 1994. There is a lot of information on the site but the site does not look professional. It resembles a basic HTML page you learn to make if you were taking a web design class in high school.

RESULT- This site is a hoax. The information/ pictures are not correct. The site is not professional, and the links do not bring you to other pages.

The second site i choose was http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html

What is the author of this site? Does the author have contact information?
The author of this site is stated at the bottom of the page. The web site is by google. Next to the author is a link to an "about us" page. When clicking there it brought me to a seperate page with links for contacting, Google blogs, etc. When clicking the "contact" link information was displayed. An address, phone number, and fax were available.

What is the publishers reputation?
Google is widely known throughout the web. The site's address starts with Google.com and leads into its archives. The bottom of the site shows "copyright 2010 Goggle". All in all the publisher seems realistic.

How broad minded or biased is the content?
The subject of the content is weird. It is about "PigeonRank's" working for Google. If you read the information it all seems silly but if you look at the bottom of the page there is a statement that states, "Note: This page was posted for April Fool's Day - 2002." Which tells us this site's purpose was for an April fool's joke.

RESULT- The actual publisher is legitimate but the context of the site is based on April Fool's day. So i would have to say this site is a hoax as well, based on it's content.

Important person

Blog Post: Write about who was the most significant person you learned about in class today and why

I think the most important man that we were introduced to in class was, Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider. He wanted to create a connection between computers to share information. He helped create the Arpanet. Which was the world's first operational packet switching system. This allowed four IMP's to send and share information to one another. The Arpanet eventually led to the Internet. I choose JCR Licklider because i believe without him the internet would have taken a lot longer to be established.

Introduction

Hey, my name's Angela but you can call me Ang. My major is Web Design and Interactive Media. The reason why i choose this major was because it was one of the things that really held my attention in high school. My passion is art, i guess that's why I'm at this school:). I like designing, painting, drawing...basically anything that has to do with creating stuff. I hope to gain as much knowledge as i can from this class. It would be great to know how things really work throughout the internet. As far as any interesting background information..there isn't much. This is my second semester here so I'm pretty much still getting use to things. I just finished an internship with a company called NESCO, testing project managing software. I work 30 hours a week at D'angelo's and commute back and forth to school from Hudson, MA. That's pretty much it!
